We were proud to have a strong team presence at the 10th IFAC International Conference on Foundations of Systems Biology in Engineering (FOSBE), held on September 8th–11th, 2024, in Corfu, Greece. CO2BION’s coordinator, Maria Klapa, was also the scientific coordinator of the project. Vasiliki (Vanessa) Savvopoulou presented the poster “Reconstructing and analyzing the experimentally supported binary protein – protein interaction network of Moorella thermoacetica, an anaerobe of industrial interest”. In addition, the majority of our research team contributed to the presentation “Bioreactor and metabolic modeling to decrease the carbon footprint of lignite-based power plants: Investigating the sustainability of a pilot-scale process integrating CO₂ capture with its bioconversion into useful chemicals”, presented by M. Klapa and coauthored by CO2BION’s research team members, E. Skouras, V. Savvopoulou, D. Vroulias, V. Dracopoulos, T. Ioannides, M. I. Klapa, and V. Burganos.
FOSBE 2024 provided an excellent platform for sharing our work at the interface of systems biology, engineering, and sustainability, and for engaging with the international research community on integrated approaches to CO₂ capture and bioconversion.
